This is a special blog entry double.
This is a double entry on how to maintain weight during times of stress. I will also be discussing on my own health journey is going. I will also be talking about my own techniques on how I maintain weight during times of stress.
When everything is good with the world and the sun is shinning, it is easy to lose weight and keep it off.
When the dark clouds loom, the rain starts to fall and life becomes a lot harder, it also becomes harder to keep off the weight that you lost. If you lose your determination the weight can slowly come back on.
Everyone has sunny days and rainy days....
It is how you cope with the rainy days that help keep the weight off.
Just a side note: A kilo gain and a kilo loss is very common and nothing to stress about, it can happen due to special events such as Christmas, Easter, birthdays, weddings etc ....
There are many things that can be done to help keep weight off during the hard times:
- Allow your cheat day: having a cheat meal once a week can help cure the cravings without hurting your healthy lifestyle.
- Healthy comfort food: On the nights you feel like comfort food, having a healthy version can help cure the craving without hurting your lifestyle
- Stress techniques: meditation, exercising, boxing, reading etc can help get your mind off your worries and focus on something else apart from food
- Talk to someone: When under a lot of stress, talking to someone about it is a good way to let out all your concerns without focusing on food.
- Take up a hobby: Taking up a activity, sport or hobby can help with the rainy days and let some sunshine in
- Blogging: Blogging is a modern day diary that the whole world can see. It is a good way to express views that other people can relate to, or even blogging about something you love can take your mind off your worries and can stop you from focusing on comfort food.
It may all sound like its too good to be true and it looks good on paper ( or the computer screen) but in reality it doesnt work ..... indeed it does..........
As the readers know, I went on a health journey and blogged it on this blog. I wrote about my ups and downs, my struggles and my triumphs. 11 months in and I have managed to keep the weight off.
I have had my moments of stress and feeling overwhelmed. I have had my sunny days and my rainy days.
Here is a description on my journey so far on keeping weight off in times of stress ..............
Life for everyone can be up and down, including me. At times, depending on the situation and stress, life can even test me and I develop cravings for the things that I i call comfort food and I know that it isnt good for my body:
- Chocolate and Sweets
- Comfort food like pizza, and creamy pasta
- White hot bread with butter
There are times that I need comfort food, there are times that I do have my comfort food on the cheat days.
Most days I have a list on what helps me to control food in times of stress (and even any day)
- I organise my meals a head of time
- I stick to my meal times
- I stick to my meal plans
- When I crave sweets and its not cheat day ill have fruit and yoghurt
- When I have a cheat day I will get right back into it the next day (no cheat weekend, just cheat day)
When stress overwhelms me ill go for a walk or ill ask my personal trainer for a session of boxing which does wonders for me.
Ill also do some blogging to the nutritional life readers, which does help as well.
So far I lost close to 8 kilos and I have kept it off. A kilo here and there will vary, I may lose a kilo or gain a kilo but this is normal for anyone managing their weight. Special events will come up or I may have partys back to back for 2 -3 weeks.
The trick that I use is a chose the day that is a cheat day, that I cant control the food. The other days where I have partys etc I watch what food I eat and ill order the most healthy.
When life is overwhelming, I talk to a loved one or someone that can listen and give advice on the situation at hand which I find very helpful.
If you follow these tips this will help you too maintain weight during times of stress.
