Altering Recipe Tips


Do you have allergies, do you have a vegan diet or you just want to be healthier? 



You can substitute ingredients for healthier alternatives without losing the taste. The texture may alter a bit depending on the recipe. 

Here are some tips when altering recipes:  

Substitute for Eggs:


  •  3 tablespoons of water to 1 tablespoon ground flax seed to substitute 1 egg (The amount of flax seed can be altered depending on the recipe
  • Mashed banana 


Substitute for Vegetable Oil:

  • You can substitute for oils that are healthier such as light olive oil or Coconut oil
  • Unsweetened Apple Pure or apple sauce

Milk and Cream: 
  • Light skim milk
  • Non dairy milk such as almond or coconut milk 
  • Low fat Greek style Yogurt or non - dairy yoghurt such as coconut in place of cream
  • coconut cream as a substitute for cream 

Substitute for Butter: 
  • Good Quality oil such as coconut oil or olive oil 
  •  Grounded sesame seeds 

Substitute for White Sugar: 

  • Good quality raw honey
  • maple syrup 
  • stevia or natural sweeter
  • coconut sugar 
  • rice malt syrup 
  • Mashed fruit for natural sweetness such as ripe bananas or berries 

Vegan Substitute for Buttermilk: 

  • 1 cup non dairy milk with 1 teaspoon lemon Juice, Let the mixture sit a few minutes until it separates, This works with dairy milk too
