It is vital for growing bodies to have the nutrients it needs to grow and thrive. Every organ at this stage of life is growing and needs nutrients (both micro and macro nutrients).
Children across the world are becoming obese. This is causing children to develop conditions such as diabetes.
There are a number of snack and recipe ideas that the children will love that is also healthy.
Fruit Skewers: Fruit such as berries, apples and oranges passed through skewers. This is a fun way for them to eat fruit.
Healthy Mini Pizzas: Making a wholemeal pizza dough or even using cut wholemeal pitta bread topped with tomato paste, lean ham or chicken, low fat cheese and loads of vegetables, put in a preheated oven for 10-12 minutes and you have a great snack (or meal) that is healthy that they will actually eat.
Home Made Burgers: Making Burgers at home using lean meat (even chicken or turkey mince), use wholemeal bun and topped with veggies and salads is another meal that the kids will love.
Wholemeal/buckwheat pancakes: topped with fruit such as berries, bananas, strained Greek style yoghurt and drizzle of honey is a yummy breakfast that will give them energy too.
Smoothies: A perfect afternoon snack that is yummy and will give them energy to play in the afternoon. You can use any kind of milk you like, fruit and yoghurt yum.
Yoghurt: Many children loves yoghurt. It is a great way for them to have protein in their diet. Read the labels on which ones are lower in sugar but still tastes great.
Soups: Soups is a great way on hiding all those vegetables that they normally wouldnt eat and can be easily hidden.
Lasagne: Lasagne is a perfect way on hiding all those veggies and is easy to make healthy. Using wholemeal lasagne pasta sheets and low fat cheese it is lower in GI, high in protein and still loaded with flavour.
