Recent studies have come out suggesting that high protein and low carbohydrate diets reduce life span. It has been all over the media in the past couple of days and online in the recent months.

One of the studies suggest that even though having excess protein in younger people (up to middle age) can shorten lifespan, having higher protein intake in the elderly is beneficial for their health.
Both studies are published in Cell Metabolism Journal which is available online to view for free:

A balanced diet and being active is the best way to be healthy. Everyone is different and has different dietary needs, but balance in the diet should be done in all types of diets and lifestyles.
